Congress: “National Guidelines in the Surgical Oncology of the Breast”, May 25-26 2012, Aigli, Zappeion, Athens
Professor G. Zografos of A' Propaedeutics surgery clinic at Ippokrateio Athens University hospital who holds the chair of general surgery in the University of Athens Medical School, organized by invitation a national working group of experts in all specialties of breast oncology with the aim to set national guidelines on breast oncology in Greece.
Dr Tsekouras was a member of this national working group and his responsibility was to prepare and propose National Guidelines on breast reconstruction following mastectomy, following a comprehensive review of the literature and similar guidelines already set by International colleges and national societies around the world. This work was then discussed and reviewed within a small group of invited plastic surgeons by the professorial unit and finalized as National Guidelines on breast reconstruction.
The above methodology was followed in all aspects of breast oncology and, when finalized, was presented on the above congress in May 2012.
Dr Tsekouras presented his work under the title: "National Guidelines on Breast Reconstruction following Mastectomy".
The whole project was held under the auspices of Ministry of Health with the collaboration of all Greek Medical schools and all breast national societies.
It proved to be the first successful attempt to set National Guidelines in all fields of surgical oncology of the breast to be used as a reference by the medical community of Greece.
The work of the congress was published in 2013 in a book under the title: "National Guidelines in the Surgical Oncology of the Breast".
