Dr. Anastasios Tsekouras MD PhD is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Athens.
His mathematical thinking and fine surgical movements were the key factors that intrigued him to such an extent that his successful path to plastic surgery became just a natural consequence, making him realize it was where heneeded to be. His fascination with medicine, from his early years, was influenced by his own vision of the ideal role of the doctor in society.
“The devotion to beauty and the creation of beautiful things is the test of all great cultures.”
This quote of Oscar Wilde, which inspired him as a medical student, was one of the components that prompted him to pursue a career in plastic surgery. His desire for the creation of beauty, his artistic nature and his love for the mathematical science, highlighted his versatile talent and rated him one of the leading plastic surgeons in Greece.
Dr. Anastasios Tsekouras is currently the Head of Plastic Surgery, at “LETO” Maternity Private Hospital. He specializes in both Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery including face and body rejuvenation, breast augmentation and reconstruction, body contouring, facial cosmetic surgery, laser aesthetic treatments and all minimally invasive treatments for face and body. During the last few years, he has been collaborating with one of the most renowned cosmetic surgery clinics in London, where he performs cosmetic procedures with exceptional results. Meanwhile, he has established his own private practice in Harley street, London, having Athens as his base.
His impressive professional career is built on a mosaic of important experiences, successes, and acquainting with the world’s best plastic surgeons who have initiated him in his career pathway.
After he was granted a Scholarship by the State Scholarships Foundation and being awarded by the Hellenic Surgical Society, Dr. Anastasios Tsekouras consciously became a “citizen of the world”. He moved to England to specialize inPlastic Surgery, and traveled to the United States, Brazil, and Slovenia for further training.
He was taught pioneering plastic surgery techniques by internationally renowned Plastic Surgeons at South Manchester University NHS Trust Hospitals; knowledge gained by John Bostwick, Professor of Plastic Surgery at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, USA during his postgraduate training in breast reconstruction was of utmost importance; he also had the privilege to be taught by the “father of cosmetic surgery”, the late Professor Ivo Pitanguy during his stay in Rio de Janeiro. In addition, he gained valuable experience in reconstructive problems and microsurgical cases during the time he spent as a student with Professor Zoran Arnez at the University Medical Center of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
He has been certified by the Royal College of Surgeons in Cosmetic Body Contouring Surgery, in Cosmetic Breast Surgery and in Cosmetic Surgery of the Face, Nose, Periorbital region and Ears. This certification scheme is led by Cosmetic Surgery Interspecialty Committee (CSIC) in order to provide a more robust regulatory framework to protect the public against the potential risks from cosmetic procedures, while also provide evidence of competencies in defend areas of cosmetic surgery.
He always wanted to stand out. Be a pioneer. Being a highly disciplined person and well dedicated to medical research, he became one of the most specialized Plastic Surgeons in reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery. His proposals in Breast Reconstruction following Mastectomy with Plastic Surgery methods are included in the book entitled: “National Guidelines for Breast Surgical Oncology” (2013 edition). He was a pioneer in the application of new techniques such as liposculpture – the evolution of liposuction – a technique for restoring the body shape that is gradually lost, as well as contemporary, state-of-the-art approaches and techniques of face and neck lift, aiming at a more natural result.
The “movement” of innovative ideas and techniques in Plastic Surgery
It is this constant search that fascinates him. He is always up-to-date with the latest technological innovations achieved in his field; his scientific articles on a wide spectrum of Plastic Surgery topics have been published in medical journals abroad, he has been a reviewer of the British Journal of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery since 2006, and he has written the chapter “Endoscopic Plastic Surgery” of the book under the title “Laparoscopic & Minimally Invasive Surgery” published by the Hellenic Surgical Society. He is constantly informed on the development of lasers and their application in biotechnology, which he considers to be the evolution of technology in Plastic Surgery. “In the recent years, the discovery of adult stem cells in adipose tissue and the possibility of using them through various techniques (cell-based therapies), seems to be very promising not only in aesthetic applications but also in many unsolved medical issues to date.” In 2017, he received his PhD from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with the title "The use of stem cells in the restoration of breast defects" with excellence.
Dr. Anastasios Tsekouras feels satisfied when he sees that the development of technological innovation is being implemented almost simultaneously in Greece and abroad. “Knowledge is abundant nowadays,” he often tells his colleagues. His circle of acquaintances from abroad and his active participation in International Meetings that are held with great success in Europe, in the United States and in Greece, have led him to contribute to the “movement” of ideas, thoughts and new techniques in his field of expertise. When he is asked what a woman needs to know before choosing a Plastic Surgeon, he simply replies that it is a matter of getting the correct information. “Women should be very cautious and not get easily carried away when choosing a Plastic Surgeon. The right choice of a certified Plastic Surgeon should be based on qualifications, trust and honesty; that means that all information provided will be clear and objective and that any possible decision will be mutual. Also, it means that there will be adequate information on the benefits and drawbacks of any possible decision, as well as realistic expectations as regards the outcome. As such, potential candidates should ensure that Greek Plastic Surgeons are members of the Hellenic Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (HESPRAS).”
"Every day, Dr. Anastasios Tsekouras tries to maintain a healthy work-life balance, being both devoted to his family and his patients, since he considers medicine a lifestyle choice and not just a profession. Therefore, he tries to cope with the hard task of balancing the huge amount of time dedicated to his patients with the time dedicated to his family. Even after a heavy daily schedule, non-verbal expressions like the smile in a patient’s face every time an operation is completed, is the source of great happiness and fulfillment for Dr. Tsekouras. “Patient happiness is a formula of satisfaction and relaxation for me”, he states. In his spare time, he enjoys writing, painting and making pottery.
“In our practice, we follow a purely human-centered approach. We listen to the needs of each individual and recommend treatments that will provide the best possible results. The clinic is equipped with the latest and most advanced technologies and devices, their purpose is to offer top non-surgical treatments.”
