Botox – Dysport
Our facial expressions and emotions - laughter, sadness and concern - are revealed daily on our face, due to the repetitive contraction of the facial mimic muscles. This movement of the facial muscles begins to form fine lines over time, leading to expression wrinkles.
A common and most frequently performed cosmetic treatment to treat these wrinkles is botulinum toxin therapy, commonly known as Botox/Dysport.
This treatment is based on the action of botulinum toxin type A (botulinum exotoxin type A), in a weakened form, which smoothes the skin and reduces expression wrinkles, as it immobilizes the mimic muscles. The purpose of its use is to localized muscle relaxation, not muscle paralysis.
Process
Botox/Dysport is injected intramuscularly with a very fine needle. This treatment is mainly addressed to people over 30 years old. In most cases, no anesthetic is used as the pain is minimum. In case of any discomfort, a local anesthetic cream may be used.
Just a few injections are enough to temporarily weaken certain muscle groups and eliminate wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes, which are due to our daily expressions. In addition, as the specific muscles are relaxed and the skin is not strained, Botox is a way to prevent the creation of new wrinkles.
The treatment can be repeated as recommended, following the advice of experts so as not to resort to exaggeration.
As the treatment has to be individualized to accommodate each patient’s needs, it is necessary for your doctor to see you as recommended, that is, when the muscle just starts to move and shortly before they get fully activated.
Results
Botox/Dysport treatment has dramatic results; it is an easy, quick, pain-free, affordable treatment and has no side effects when applied by a specialist.
The first results take effect after two or three days, while they take 15 days to produce the final results. The effects last from 3 to 6 months, depending on the individual and the quality and condition of the skin.
After the treatment
- Try to exercise your facial muscles over 2-3 hours after the treatment (e.g. to frown your eyebrows) and continue to make all the daily expressions, so as to get quicker results.
- Avoid rubbing the treated areas for the next 12 hours.
- Avoid using make-up for the next 4-6 hours.
- Do not lie down, do not bend over and do not do any strenuous activity for the next 4-6 hours after the treatment.
- Avoid hot showers, hair dryers and direct, excessive sun exposure for the next 24 hours.
- Some small marks or redness are temporary and disappear completely within a few hours.
Useful Information
- The treatment can be applied to the neck, chin, etc., depending on your needs.
- Botox treatment does not treat sagging skin, but it can be combined with other methods (Wrinkle Reduction System, Peels), to tighten, regenerate and gently exfoliate the face.
- Botox is also an effective treatment for focal hyperhidrosis, a condition characterized by excessive sweat production, mainly in the armpits, palms and soles, affecting the patient’s quality of life. Botox effects take about 21 days to develop and last about 6-9 months.
