Trauma reconstructive surgery

Reconstruction of trauma is one of the main subjects of reconstructive plastic surgery.

Trauma, as defined by the World Health Organization, is any force-related tissue damage, internal or external, regardless of the initiating cause. Depending on the cause, trauma can be classified as mechanical, i.e. injury produced by mechanical violence (e.g. knife, stone, wood, etc.) thermal, chemical or radial (from radiation).

Apart from mechanical trauma, all other types of injuries mentioned above are treated as burns.

Technique

Treatment methods may differ depending on the type and severity of the injury. Surgical wound cleansing is often necessary in order to remove any foreign body, dead tissue or pus from the surface or depth of a wound. Shortly after, the aesthetic appearance of the scar can be improved and its function can be restored.

What to expect after surgery

Your doctor will provide you with instructions on how to look after your wound so that the healing process can occur immediately and be as effective as possible.

Useful Information

  • There are many factors that affect wound healing which interfere with the unique characteristics or individual combination of genes. In some cases, scars heal and become more obvious compared to other less visible ones.
  • Straight wounds are typically healed better than irregularly shaped ones, and cuts heal better than deep wounds.
